What Is Bruxism - Teeth Grinding
Author: Limar
Bruxism, night time teeth grinding, will effect three out of ten children with the highest incidences occurring in children under five. It is common for them to clench their jaw or grind their teeth, especially at night or under stress. There is no real direct cause for bruxism although teething and earache can cause your child to clench it’s jaws or grind it’s teeth, almost as though in relax to the pain. Your child will normally grow out of this type of bruxism when they stop teething.
Stress can be another cause, such as worry over an exam or problems at school. Problems at home with parents and siblings can also cause this reflexive grinding. There has also been a link between bruxism and children with hyperactivity.
Teeth grinding does not generally seem to hurt a child’s teeth , although it can lead to morning headaches or earaches. With some cases of nighttime teeth grinding the results have been a little more harsh - chipped teeth, wearing down of tooth enamel, face pain and jaw problems and increased sensitivity to temperature.
If you think your child may be suffering from teeth grinding, first look out for the following signs: Read the rest of this entry »

Author: Limar
As a child I remember tales of my mother’s family cats, with Uncle Tom being kept in the dark that it was his sister’s cat that had enjoyed his favourite bird. Cats and birds shared the house; cat in house = bird in cage; bird free in house = cat outside screen door; I don’t remember any of our cats dining on our birds though mother lost several budgies by going outside forgetting they were on her shoulder.
A long preamble perhaps but when animals are an integral part of your life one tends to treat them as family. So that, as one becomes more conscious of how one lives, by respecting the planet, eating healthily, not wasting food surely the same thing applies to how we feed our pets. I guess the principles of a healthy diet for a cat would be an organic, holistic one. Cats are carnivores - observe the number of mice that one has to dispose of, usually just the liver and intestines to be fair - our cats are thorough, unless they play with them first of course, in which case its mouse eradication from underneath grandfather clocks, heavy chests of drawers and the kitchen sink. So if one has a plentiful supply of mice a lot of problems are solved - pest extermination naturally, fresh raw meat, especially bone. However most cats have managed to domesticate humans and prefer a more varied diet. Trawling through many web sites night after night the main principles of a Healthy, Organic diet for your cat is:
Feed the diet that nature intended for your carnivore - as close as possible to the form and nutritional composition that your cat would eat in a natural setting. The diet that I choose to feed is very basic. Some of the elaborate and complicated recipes found on the internet are enough to cause anyone to abandon the idea of making their own cat food and that is a shame. It does not have to be that complicated and involved. The diet of a wild cat is pretty basic - they eat whole carcass prey, often leaving the stomach and intestines behind. In the wild, your cat would be eating a high protein, high-moisture content, meat-based diet, with a moderate level of fat and with only approximately 3-5 percent of her diet consisting of carbohydrates.

Where Do You Get Your News?
Author: Limar
The other day, someone at the Online Think Tank had asked me how come I am up on all the latest news - he asked; “where do you get your news anyway?” What he was really asking is if I got most of my news online, from the newspaper, radio or TV? Interestingly enough, I get my news from all those sources. Online, I take several RSS feeds, ezines and surf the online news. You see, as a huge “news intake junky” myself, I can say that both online and offline news are important.
Where do you get your news? Where do we tend to get most of our news? Yes, this is a very good question, and some say news is like politics and all news is local, meaning that you need to read the local newspaper, watch the local TV, listen to the local radio and go to localized online portal venues. Great news for local media at a time when much of the advertising dollar is moving towards online venues.
But how people get their news is really hard to say. For many like me it is a combination of sources. Maybe, but without proper research, it is just all talk. In fact, I read an interesting blog the other day that addressed this issue and cited a couple of surveys that contradicted each other, done of course by the media of each different venue, convenient indeed. It seems to me that this gentleman’s blog makes a great point in that he shows these “news polls” for what they are. Read the rest of this entry »
